Greywacke was founded in 2009 by Kevin Judd, who was instrumental in the international recognition of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc during his tenure as chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay. The name "Greywacke" was adopted for the winery's first Marlborough vineyard, located in Rapaura, in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. The winery sources fruit from prime vineyards in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and the central Wairau Plains, including Woodbourne, Renwick, and Rapaura. The soil types vary from young alluvial soils containing high proportions of greywacke river stones to older and denser clay-loams, contributing to the wine's complexity.

Tasting Notes: The Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc 2023 presents enticing aromas of cassis, lemon sorbet, and green mango, with a delicate dusting of white pepper spice. On the palate, it offers juicy notes of Winter Cole pear and baked apple pie, lifted by fragrant layers of elderflower, yuzu, and ripe citrus. The wine is elegant yet striking, with a textural and opulent mouthfeel, lifted and lingering finish.
